Why are hockey masks scary?

Hockey masks tend to give us the creeps, and it's no wonder why. It's largely due to their association with horror films, especially the 'Friday the 13th' series where the villain, Jason Voorhees, sports a hockey mask. The mask's emotionless and blank stare also adds to the eerie factor, making it hard to predict what the wearer is thinking or feeling. Over time, these factors have ingrained a sense of fear and unease towards hockey masks. So, it's not the mask itself that's frightening, but the cultural implications and associations we've attached to it.
